‘I think he’s a real steal for Newcastle United…’ Troy Deeney

Troy Deeney has picked his best 12 performers from the midweek action.

The Premier League team of the week (and manager) that have most impressed him.

Included in his dozen choices is one from Newcastle United.

This NUFC player with once again another very positive performance in the 2-1 victory at Spurs.

Troy Deeney explains why he has chosen this Newcastle United star for his Premier League team of the week and then the full eleven (twelve) are listed below.

Troy Deeney declaring: “When Newcastle’s midfield has been torn up because of injury or suspension in the last few weeks, Jacob Ramsey has quietly gone about his business.”

Jacob Ramsey didn’t have the benefit of any pre-season with his new Newcastle United teammates and then picked up a bad injury when starting his first match for NUFC. A bad challenge by Sean Longstaff seeing the signing from Villa forced off at Elland Road and ruled out for some time.

The BBC Sport pundit adding about Jacob Ramsey: “He’s been excellent and made sure he delivers in terms of performances and now goals.”

Often with midfielders, they don’t get wider attention in the media etc unless they are scoring and creating goals. Jacob Ramsey has been playing well for some time and put in some great performances against the likes of PSG and others, getting the winning goal against Spurs now gets the attention he has deserved anyway.

Troy Deeney declaring about Troy Deeney: “I think he’s a real steal for Newcastle United.”

I think a lot of the criticism of the summer signings has been very lazy, not the total disaster some want to make it out to be. Malick Thiaw has been an undoubted success, whilst Nick Woltemade has also done plenty to suggest he can be a real asset, as Eddie Howe and his teammates work towards getting the best out of an unorthodox player. Yoane Wissa has suffered the most through injury and I think clearly struggling to get back to full fitness and maintain it.

With both Elanga and Ramsey though, they have impressed recently and indeed, as Troy Deeney says, the one-time Aston Villa player has been doing well for some time, though a bit under the radar. Some signings just take longer to settle, especially when picking up injuries early on.

Jacob Ramsey has now had 13 starts for Newcastle United and 14 off the bench, in all competitions, and I for one certainly think we’ve got a very good midfielder for just under £40m. A typical transfer fee for a Premier League midfielder these days. Spurs have just brought in Conor Gallagher for a similar amount, I know which of the two I prefer!

I think it is also informative as well to hear what fans of a new signing’s former club are saying. Villa fans have invariably said Newcastle United have got an excellent player in Jacob Ramsey and it was injuries that were the big issue for the midfielder at Villa Park.
