West Ham United midfielder Freddie Potts has been singing the praises of Nuno Espírito Santo’s new right-hand man, Paco Jémez.
The former UD Ibiza boss and Spanish international joined the Hammers in January and has overseen an immediate upturn in form.
Since his arrival, [West Ham](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-united-football-club-bio/) have played five games, winning three, drawing one and losing one — a marked improvement on the relegation form that preceded it.
Jémez has provided plenty of entertainment with his animated touchline presence and hilarious interviews, but behind the scenes there is clearly some serious work being done on the training ground — and Potts has been impressed.
Potts Credits Defensive Improvement to Paco

Speaking about Jémez, the Academy graduate said: “He’s had a massive impact, especially defensively. We’re conceding fewer goals. He’s a very good coach. He’s smart with the defenders, and us midfield players. He helps everyone. He’s a great guy, and an even better coach.”
It’s another ringing endorsement of the Spaniard’s influence — and one that backs up what supporters have been seeing on the pitch.
With performances tightening up and belief returning, Jémez’s arrival is increasingly looking like a pivotal moment in West Ham’s season.
The only lingering question now is whether that change has come soon enough and why the hell it took so long?
