Vitor Pereira’s expected arrival at Nottingham Forest has been questioned.

The Portuguese is expected to be appointed as the Reds’ new head coach, following the departure of Sean Dyche.

His last job was at Wolves where he was sacked after 11 months in charge at Molineux.

Wolves were under threat of relegation from the Premier League when Pereira arrived in December 2024, but he led them clear of danger and they finished 17 points above the drop zone in 16th place.

But it went badly wrong for him this season and he was axed in November, with Wolves bottom of the table and winless in the league after 10 matches.

Asked if Pereira is right for Forest, former player Dean Ashton told Sky Sports: “I’m not sure, in terms of a man coming in off the back of something that should be credited as any good, because the time at Wolves at the start of the season was horrendous, in terms of the performances and the results.

“Not winning a game before he got sacked in the Premier League was shameful almost, considering what he’d done the previous season.

“I know he could have talked about losing some of his best players, but, still, I think it was the manner of some of the defeats under his management at Wolves was quite drastic.”

Pereira has previously managed under Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis at Olympiacos and has also been in charge of Porto and Fenerbahce.

“He’s got a fantastic CV, he’s got lots of experience and he did show what he could do with that squad at Wolves when he first came in,” Ashton added.
