Scouts sent: Newcastle officials now "closely" watching British gem from major European club

Newcastle United have now sent officials to "closely" keep an eye on a former Liverpool youngster, as PIF continue to plot their move.

Newcastle "closely" watching ex-Liverpool gem

The Magpies have plenty to make up for this summer, having endured a nightmare season off the back of an even worse year in the transfer market. And that is much thanks to Liverpool, who snuck ahead of them to sign Hugo Ekitike last summer, before also landing Alexander Isak in a Premier League-record move.

Whether PIF will be in a position to spend big is the forever question at St James' Park. The introduction of SCR rules (Squad Cost Ratio) could yet benefit those in Tyneside.

The rules are centred around spending sporting earnings and those outside of the Champions League can spend a greater percentage of their earnings throughout the season. There is, therefore, an argument to be made that Newcastle's short-term pain could become long-term gain in the coming months.

But what does Eddie Howe need after such a frustrating campaign? Recent reports have claimed that Newcastle are already in the market for an attacking reinforcement, name-dropping Omari Hutchinson and Dusan Vlahovic as potential targets.

The latter would be a particularly impressive buy, despite how he's fallen down the pecking order at Juventus. The Serbian is an out-and-out goalscorer - something the Magpies have lacked as of late - and may be available for a cut-price if the Serie A giants are looking to sell.

They could also get one back on Liverpool. According to ex-Premier League scout Mick Brown, via Football Insider, Newcastle officials are watching Tyler Morton "closely" at Lyon as PIF plot an impressive summer move.

Tyler Morton has been a man transformed in France

From the young midfielder who couldn't get a look in under Arne Slot, Morton has become one to watch in France. The 23-year-old has shown that he's been ready for first-team action at the top level for some time and has been the epitome of composure at the heart of Lyon's midfield.

The Magpies could solve their attacking problems.

Telling Football Insider about the growing interest in the former Liverpool youngster, Brown name-dropped Newcastle among others in the Premier League.

“Tyler Morton is attracting a lot of interest it seems. When a player goes abroad and starts making a name for himself, Premier League clubs are always going to be keeping an eye on his progress.

"Especially a midfielder, because a lot of clubs are in need of a player in that position. So Newcastle have been mentioned, I have no doubt they will have scouts watching him closely to see whether he would be a good fit for their side."

After last summer's Isak and Ekitike dealings, Newcastle could take revenge on Liverpool by reminding them just how much potential Morton has to star in the Premier League.
