When Everton failed to score despite taking 34 shots at West Brom
On February 13th 2016, Tony Pulis took his West Brom side to Goodison Park, where Martinez – who wanted more time on Merseyside – watched his Everton team absolutely dominate the Baggies.
Shots: Everton 34 – 1 West Brom
Possession: Everton 76% – 24% West Brom
Corners: Everton 14 – 1 West Brom
Woodwork: Everton hit the post twice (Ross Barkley and Tom Cleverley)
Despite recording 34 shots and 76% of the possession, Everton failed to break West Brom down, and ultimately went on to suffer a 1-0 defeat after Rondon bundled in a loose ball at the back post in scruffy style.
It was West Brom’s only shot on target.
Everton set a Premier League record that day for the most shots taken by a losing side, and actually still hold that position right now despite a valiant effort from Tottenham in December 2023 against West Ham.

To make matters worse for Everton, the hero on this day in Rondon – who stunned fans in 2024 – never managed to find hero status on Merseyside when playing for the Toffees.
In total, the 36-year-old only scored two goals in 14 appearances for Everton at Goodison Park, just one more than he managed for West Brom in one match at the same venue.
