Aston Villa v Newcastle United injury news: Unai Emery will be without Matty Cash and four other key players for their FA Cup clash against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
The Villans head into Saturday’s game on the back of a win over Brighton in the Premier League on Wednesday night. However, they had to play that match without defender Matty Cash who picked up a ‘small injury’.
Speaking about the Polish international in midweek, Emery cast doubt on his chances of featuring against the Magpies: “He was injured, with a small injury,” the former Arsenal manager confirmed to Birmingham World. “I don’t know if he will be available for Saturday. Each day is important for how he is progressing.”
Cash, though, has not been deemed fit enough to return to action this weekend and will join a fairly lengthy list of injuries impacting Emery and his squad: “Usually, as a coach, I had this problem a lot of times,” Emery said on Friday when addressing the injury issues at the club.
“And how I needed to take the decision, building the team, trying some players being with the possibility to play different positions, being versatile. Now, I don’t have another issue different than before I had in another moment, or in other countries and other clubs, or even here in Aston Villa. And other teams, as well, they have this problem with players being injured.
“But we are, after the transfer window finishing, and with some change we did, and with the players, they are injured, we are working with different possibilities.”

He added: “We have enough players to replace as a midfielder, to replace as well, full-back, Andrés (García) and Matty Cash, with the players we have.”
Douglas Luiz, who rejoined Villa from Juventus after spending the first-half of the campaign on-loan at Nottingham Forest, could make his fourth start in a row on Saturday in midfield whilst Alysson, a January recruit from Gremio, could make his first start for the Villans.
Aston Villa injury news v Newcastle United
Cash’s injury adds yet another dilemma for Emery to consider when his side welcome the Magpies to Villa Park on Saturday evening. The Spaniard is already expected to be without four other key players this weekend.
John McGinn: McGinn will miss the clash with Newcastle United this weekend. The Scotland international has been sidelined since January with a knee injury and is not expected back in action until April.
Youri Tielemans: Tielemans suffered an ankle injury during Villa’s win at St James’ Park last month. The former Leicester City man has not featured since that day and is expected to remain sidelined for another few weeks.
Boubacar Kamara: A knee injury could keep Kamara out for the remainder of the season. Emery confirmed last month that it is unlikely he will have the midfielder back in contention before the campaign comes to an end.
Andres Garcia: A hamstring injury will keep Garcia sidelined this weekend. There is hope that he can return to action in the near future, though.
