The Irishman, who signed for CCFC from Bohemians in the January transfer window, was the star of the show as he made a series of strong tackles in midfield and came close again later but saw his effort blocked by the visitors Peter Ramage (later to play four Sky Blue games in 2016).
Keiren with CCFC
Rangers rarely troubled Sky Blue ‘keeper (and CCFPA member) Keiren Westwood in the first half but there was a bit more purpose about them in the second period. That said, the toughest save for the highly-rated shot-stopper was when he had to push a header clear from the Sky Blues own centreback Leon Barnett in the 71st minute!
The two teams lined up as follows:-
Sky Blues (CCFPA members underlined):
Keiren Westwood; Stephen Wright, Leon Barnett, Richard Wood, Martin Cranie, Carl Baker, Gary Deegan, Sammy Clingan, Michael McIndoe, Freddy Eastwood, Clinton Morrison (sub. Freddy Sears – 67mins).
Unused subs: Shaun Jeffers, Chris Hussey, Jermaine Grandison, Adam Walker and Dimi Konstantopoulos (gk)
Mick in the Sky Blue
Q.P.R. (managed by Mick Harford):-
Carl Ikeme, Peter Ramage, Damion Stewart, Kaspars Gorkss, Matthew Hill, Akos Buzsaky (sub. Adel Taarabt – 67), Matthew Connelly, Alejandro Faurlin, Lee Cook (c), Jay Simpson, Tamas Priskin (sub. Antonio German – 55). Unused subs: Gary Borrowdale, Nigel Quashie, Rowan Vine, Angelo Balanta and Radak Cerny (gk) Referee: D. Foster.
On the visitor’s bench defender Gary Borrowdale had played twenty six Sky Blue games between 2007-09!
CCFC 2009-10
After three wins in the next four games the Sky Blues had a dreadful end to the season failing to win in their last eleven games so slipping down to finish in nineteenth spot in the Championship seven points above the drop zone. The Hoops were six places (and three points) better off than CCFC. At the foot of the table the three clubs to be relegated were Sheffield Wednesday (22nd), Plymouth Argyle (23rd) and bottom Peterborough United.
At the top of the Championship Newcastle United racked up 102 points as Champions and were promoted with runners up West Bromwich Albion eleven points behind the Magpies and, after the play offs, sixth placed Blackpool a full 21 points behind the Baggies!
