Newcastle United are eyeing a move to sign Borussia Dortmund star Julian Ryerson this summer to replace Kieran Trippier, according to Sports Boom.
The Magpies have had a mixed campaign so far this season and currently sit tenth in the Premier League table, but are in the knockout stages of the Champions League and reached the Carabao Cup semi-finals, while they are also still in the FA Cup at the fourth-round stage.
The club are still battling on all fronts to compete at the highest level again next season, and that has seen Toon chiefs make plans for the upcoming summer window already, including finding a top-level replacement for outgoing veteran Trippier.

Ryerson is having an outstanding season for Dortmund, registering nine assists in all competitions so far for the Bundesliga side, which has attracted the interest of a number of clubs in England who are looking for full-back additions.
The 28-year-old has been impressive and Newcastle believe that his physcial profile is perfect for the Premier League, and as such they have shortlisted him as an option to come in and replace Trippier, who is out of contract at St James' Park this summer.
The Norwegian is equally capable of playing on the right and left, like Trippier, and recent scouting missions have seen him labelled as 'flawless' by the recruitment department at Newcastle.
Dortmund don't want to lose the player this summer, but are aware of the financial power of English teams, and have therefore slapped a £30m asking price on his head to try and maximise that potential.
It's also understood that Ryerson is open to a move to England as it would likely come with a significant pay-rise, with some sources suggesting he could triple his money.

Eddie Howe
Newcastle are known for their physical style of play and under Eddie Howe, Ryerson would be a perfect fit for that style.
Trippier, along with Tino Livramento, is able to play on both flanks well and that helps to provide cover for Lewis Hall at left-back. Losing Trippier will be a big blow in terms of experience and quality, but Ryerson is able to provide that experience and versatility too, and it could prove to be some shrewd business from the club if they can get it over the line.
