‘I think…’ – £56k a week Leeds United star makes shocking revelation that supporters will…

Brenden Aaronson

The summer of 2023 saw Leeds United relegated to the Championship after three seasons in the top flight. Marcelo Bielsa guided the Whites to their Premier League return for the first time in decades.

That season was one of the most memorable in the club’s recent history; as a promoted club, they finished in the top half of the table and hit a points and goals record for a newly-promoted side at that time. Things went from good to bad in the second season under Bielsa; after a poor stretch of games, the team were getting too close to danger.

The Argentine was sacked and Jesse Marsch came in and guided the team to safety. During the summer of 2022, the American coach was heavily back in the market, signing players with Red Bull connections like Max Wober, Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson. Leeds pulled the plug on Marsch in the New Year, going from Javi Gracia and then Sam Allardyce in a bid to beat the drop. Unfortunately for the Whites, their fate was sealed at the end of the season.

Brenden Aaronson makes a shocking revelation about Leeds United

Brenden Aaronson was one of the big money signings that season, and his first year in England was not great. He featured in 36 games and only managed four goal contributions. Aaronson was routinely criticized by fans, and was benched by different coaches during that season. Now, he seems to have turned his career around, but in a recent interview with Sky Sports, he made the shocking admission that the 2022/23 Leeds side is better than this season’s group:

“You can look three years ago, I think we had a great team back then, something doesn’t go your way, I mean, I can remember a lot of results that didn’t go our way that year.”

”This year, I think we’re just doing a better job with results, I guess you could say, and I think we’re handling ourselves better than we did three years ago.”

Fans will rightly disagree

The 2022/23 Leeds team was definitely not one of the best the club had assembled in the last few seasons. In fact, it was quite an underwhelming set of players – losing Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips and splashing cash on those summer signings were definitely a choice. And it showed on the pitch; only three players in the team managed more than five league goals in that campaign.

This season arguably has a much better group of players and a lot of that is due to the summer recruitment. Guys like Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are performing much better than Luis Sinisterra did.
