Everton seem ready to back David Moyes in the upcoming transfer window as they set their sights on Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi.

Manchester City centre-back Nathan Ake has also been linked with a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium in recent months, with the Netherlands international struggling for game time at the Etihad Stadium.

David Moyes has had to rely on James Tarkowski and Michael Keane as his first-choice pairing in the backline due to Jarrad Branthwaite’s fitness issues.

While the English centre-back duo have done well for the Toffees, the Scottish manager will surely want more quality in his team to make progress and qualify for Europe.

Everton face tough competition for Marcos Senesi deal

Juventus and Barcelona have set their sights on Senesi, whose current contract expires at the end of the season.

Tuttojuve reports on 13 February that the Serie A club plan to hold talks with the centre-back in the coming days to win the race for his signature.

The Argentina international has been a pivotal player for Bournemouth over the last four seasons, and it isn’t surprising to see top teams expressing their interest in him.

With the 28-year-old in demand ahead of the summer transfer window, the Toffees may need to shift focus to another defensive target at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Ake seems like the perfect option for the Blues as they look to grab a European finish in the Premier League this season.

"It's about balancing minutes for Jarrad Branthwaite. He's been out for the best part of eight months, so we've just got to be careful how many games and how many minutes he plays."

The Dutch defender has won four league titles at Man City and the Champions League.

While the versatile centre-back is 30 years old, he can surely bring bags of title-winning experience to the Merseyside outfit, which is currently missing in the squad.

David Moyes has perfect Marcos Senesi alternative

It’s clear that Everton are looking to add balance to their defence with the signing of a left-footed centre-back.

Ake is undoubtedly a perfect alternative to Senesi and can slot in right alongside Tarkowski in the backline.

Branthwaite can surely also learn a lot from the Netherlands international, and with the 23-year-old consistently injured, the Blues surely need more depth in his position.

With Ake’s current contract expiring in June 2027, the Merseyside outfit will be confident about agreeing a cut-price fee with Man City for the defender if they pursue him.
