Jack Grealish had set his sights on a return to the England squad this summer.
And when taking into account his form since he arrived at Everton, an inclusion in the squad would have been more than warranted.
Grealish was the man of the moment for the Toffees, having been handed a license to roam under David Moyes, just as he was throughout his time at Aston Villa.
But when disaster struck, and Grealish was ruled out for the rest of the season, his chances of making the England squad were reduced.
Now, they have been reduced further by a decision made by another Premier League star.

Harvey Barnes could impact Jack Grealish’s World Cup hopes
With Grealish ruled out for the rest of the season, it remains to be seen what level of fitness he is at ahead of the World Cup.
The competition is due to get underway in the second week of June, which is just weeks after the Premier League season ends.
But now, Harvey Barnes has reportedly declared for England, despite having been mooted to change his allegiance to Scotland.
The 28-year-old has 12 goals and two assists for Newcastle this season, having largely been used as a substitute.
Harvey Barnes will NOT be playing for Scotland at this summer's World Cup.

And Thomas Tuchel will do well to overlook that level of form, especially when taking into account Grealish’s injury situation, as disappointing as it would be.
Everton still have several players in strong contention for England squad
Jordan Pickford is not only nailed on to go to the World Cup, but he will be England’s number one.
However, he could easily be joined in the camp by James Garner, who has been one of the Toffees’ best players so far this season, alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Both of them have very unique profiles, which will put them in good standing to make the cut when Tiuchel decides on his squad.
As of right now, Garner certainly seems the most likely to get the call, but if Dewsbury-Hall can get back to his best before the end of the campaign, his form may prove to be too good to ignore.
