The Glaswegian has overseen 567 games in charge of the Toffees across two separate stints, but the closest he ever came to silverware was the 2009 FA Cup final against Chelsea, which Everton lost 2-1.
There is – however – an argument for the UEFA Cup being the best chance of silverware for David Moyes as we revisit a win over SK Brann on this day back in February 2008.

2007/08 UEFA Cup remains a significant missed opportunity for Everton
On February 13th 2008, an Everton side consisting of stars like Phil Jagielka, Yakubu, Andy Johnson, Tim Cahill and Leon Osman recorded a 2-0 win over SK Brann in the first leg of the UEFA Cup Round of 32.
It was a hugely exciting start to the knockout phase, and surely had Everton fans dreaming of a first trophy since the 1995 FA Cup. However, it was not to be.
That result must still play on the mind of Moyes – who Everton fans are upset with – as a ‘what could have been’ moment after what ensued. The Scot’s incredibly talented squad ended up losing on penalties to Fiorentina in the Round of 16.
To make matters worse, the Toffees even defeated the eventual champions Zenit St Petersburg 1-0 in the group stage, showing just how much potential this Everton side had.

Why David Moyes may still think about that UEFA Cup campaign to this day
A couple of years later in 2010, Moyes – who needs more experienced players – memorably claimed that he wanted to win silverware with Everton “more than anything” in his life.
The 62-year-old earnestly told the Mirror: “I don’t have a cup in front of me. I see Howard Kendall and Joe Royle around the place and both were great managers who brought trophies to Everton.
“Hopefully the period under me has been an improvement for the club – not just the team, but the whole structure… but what I want more than anything is to lift one of those silver things.”
18 years on from that UEFA Cup win over SK Brann which promised so much, Moyes is still searching for that trophy with less than 18 months remaining on his contract at Everton.
Is David Moyes doing enough at Everton to earn himself a new contract? 🫣
If not, who would you like to see replace him? 😬

Having already crashed out of the FA Cup to Sunderland at the first hurdle – and to Wolves at the second hurdle of the Carabao Cup – next season could well be his last chance.
