Everton are massively underperforming in one specific aspect of their game.

Form has been hard to come by for the Toffees as of late, and that has led to some, admittedly small, amounts of pressure on David Moyes.

However, the Blues are still well-placed to make something of the current campaign, with just five points separating them from the top six.

Should a top-six club side win the FA Cup, then a European spot could open up for whoever finishes in eighth.

But if that is to be Everton, Moyes has to work on one area of their game, which has been rather weak this season.

Everton’s scoring woes are down to more than just a lack of attacking quality

Thierno Barry and Beto have struggled this season, and that has been on show for everyone to see with a distinct lack of goals from either of them.

However, one of the biggest concerns for the Toffees is actually in regard to their set-pieces, and the lack of threat they pose from them.

From all set pieces, Everton have had 31 attempts in the Premier League this season, which is the second most out of any side in the top flight.

But only nine of those have resulted in goals, which leaves them 12th in the top flight for that stat.

Arsenal have the most goals with 16, not that that would come as a surprise to anyone, with Wolves the lowest-scoring side from those situations with just four goals.

Everton are also one of only a few teams yet to have scored directly from a free kick.

As demonstrated by Sofascore‘s graphic above, there is a lot of work to do in that regard for Everton, and with how much aerial presence they have in their team, there’s little excuse not to be making more of them.

Everton have already been linked with someone who can help rectify the issue

Given the number of shots taken from set pieces, it may be unfair to say that the delivery has been the issue.

And to be honest, it hasn’t been.

But that’s not to say that it cannot be improved, and with Everton having been linked with a move to sign Harry Wilson, he would be able to achieve that.

The Wales international is a dead-ball specialist, and his ability to put a ball into the box with pace and accuracy will make it a lot easier to pose a threat.

However, until those getting into the positions start taking the chances, the improvement will still be minimal.
