Adam Pope drops Leeds transfer update as 49ers plan major double summer signing

The 49ers are already prioritising two big transfer moves for Leeds United this summer if Daniel Farke's side secure Premier League survival.

49ers prioritising two major Leeds transfers

After a quiet January transfer window, which only featured the loan arrival of Facundo Buonanotte, Leeds could be set for a busy summer. The intention was certainly there in the winter window to welcome further additions, with Jorgen Strand Larsen and Harry Wilson among the reported targets, but the Yorkshire club were in no position to panic.

Leeds United have a star who's improved massively over the last couple of years.

As things stand, Farke's side are six points clear of the dropzone and have been on an incredibly impressive run of form since switching to a back five system. It's put their destiny in their own hands with 12 Premier League games remaining.

Farke is not keen to welcome any distractions, either. As big as the FA Cup is, he told reporters earlier this week that "survival" is the "priority".

"Of course we want to go into the next round, there is no doubt about this, but on the other hand, the league and to achieve survival has priority and for that we won’t risk any player where we have any doubts."

Should the Whites secure their place in the Premier League for another season, it goes without saying that they'll be in their strongest position since Marcelo Bielsa's tenure.

And that should result in further investment from the 49ers. They spent wisely last summer to welcome bargains like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been one of the signings of the season, but have now earned the right to take the brakes off.

Transfer rumours are already coming thick and fast, too. Wilson, who is out of contract this summer, remains on Leeds' radar. Whilst there is also reportedly new interest in Manchester United's Tyrell Malaca.

Alas, according to BBC Sport's Adam Pope, the 49ers will be prioritising a goalkeeper and striker this summer, and will spend a large bulk of Leeds' transfer budget on two significant signings in those positions.

Players Leeds could sign this summer

With that said, it's worth taking note of several options. Starting in goal, recent rumours have claimed that Leeds are interested in Manchester City's James Trafford.

He's a wanted man...

The England international returned to The Etihad in the summer as Pep Guardiola's No.1, only to instantly lose his place to the arriving Gianluigi Donnarumma. Now, as he seeks a starting place, Leeds and other Premier League sides are reportedly circling.

Meanwhile, when it comes to attacking reinforcements, Wilson still seems to be the main name mentioned. The Fulham man, although naturally a winger, is versatile enough to lead the line and would be an excellent addition at Elland Road this summer.

Given that he's set to become a free agent, it would be quite the statement from the 49ers if they managed to fend off competition from around English football to sign Wilson in the coming months.
