Things spotted from Liverpool training ahead of the FA Cup tie against Brighton.
Liverpool were put through the paces for the final time ahead of their FA Cup fourth-round tie against Brighton at Anfield.
Arne Slot’s side had a session at the AXA Training Centre as the Reds aim to reach the next stage of the competition. Head coach Slot admitted at his pre-match press conference that he is having ‘sleepless nights’ over his team selection.
Slot is wary that some of his players are at risk of injury amid a depleted squad, so may make a late call on the team he selects to face Premier League rivals Brighton at Anfield on Saturday (20.00 GMT).
There are some fans who’d like to see youngsters given a chance. Rio Ngumoha is an option to start of the left-wing and the 17-year-old is very much classed as a first-team player. Meanwhile, centre-midfielder Trey Nyoni, 19, has come off the bench on occasions this season.
Kieran Morrison, who was on the bench for the 1-0 Premier League victory over Sunderland, was again involved with the first team. The 19-year-old versatile forward was named Premier League 2 Player of the Month and will be desperate for another chance after playing in a 3-0 Carabao Cup fourth-round loss to Crystal Palace earlier this season.
And there was another new teenage face spot rubbing shoulders with Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Co. Clae Ewing was given a chance to impress Slot and his coaching staff. Ewing is a 19-year-old left-back who has made seven appearances for the under-21s this season.
Ewing has been with Liverpool since under-12 level after arriving from Bury. It remains to be seen whether Ewing will be in Slot’s squad with Milos Kerkez and Andy Robertson the senior left-back options.
Amara Nallo, the 19-year-old centre-back who came off the bench in a 6-0 Champions League win over Qarabag, was also part of Friday’s session.
