Newcastle United have been dealt a major injury blow, with Bruno Guimaraes set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, according to Brazilian media. With the Brazil national team back in action in March for friendlies against Croatia and France, Guimaraes has been deemed a major absence.

ESPN Brazil claim the midfielder is expected to be sidelined for at least two months with a posterior muscle injury in his left thigh.

After undergoing scans this week, it's said that Guimaraes will soon travel to Brazil to be treated by national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar, allowing Carlo Ancelotti's coaching staff to closely monitor the recovery of one of his key players.

Elsewhere, [The Telegraph](https://twitter.com/LukeEdwardsTele/status/2022450484586647765?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 13, 2026 ) have reported that Guimaraes will be unavailable for around six to seven weeks with a hamstring injury and isn't expected to return until after the March international break.

During his press conference on Friday, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe confirmed the club were waiting to see the full extent of his injury.

"Bruno - we are awaiting news on his hamstring injury," he said. "We are waiting for the full extent on the injury."

The Magpies skipper had to be brought off in stoppage time against Tottenham in north London after it was deemed he was unable to continue. Guimaraes was seen limping after the game and had only just returned to the side.

This new injury comes just after a January ankle injury that resulted in the Brazil star missing three matches.

"Once again, I hope it [the injury] is nothing too serious and that I can be back soon," Guimaraes said after the Spurs win.

Guimaraes will miss crucial games for Newcastle: Aston Villa (FA Cup), Qarabag FK (Champions League two-legged play‑off), Everton, Manchester United, Chelsea and Sunderland in the Premier League.

The midfielder could return for the Crystal Palace clash at Selhurst Park on April 11, following the March international break.

Unfortunately, it's more bad news for Newcastle, who already have an extensive injury list. Lewis Miley (thigh), Joelinton (groin), Emil Krafth (knee), Tino Livramento (hamstring) and Fabian Schar (ankle) are all working towards full fitness.

Newcastle are in FA Cup action on Saturday evening, facing Villa (5:45pm) in the West Midlands for a place in the fifth round.
