Preview: Brighton & Hove Albion v Arsenal Women

We look to continue our winning run when we travel to Broadfield Stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion in the Barclays Women's Super League on Sunday (2.30pm kick-off).

Our Gunners have won the last five matches in all competitions, most recently beating OH Leuven 4-0 away from home in the first leg of the UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final play-offs.

Take a look through our match preview ahead of the weekend to get the lowdown on Brighton, find out the latest team news and more.

SIGHTS ON THE SEAGULLS

Ahead of the weekend, the Seagulls are seventh in the WSL with five wins, two draws and eight defeats, having scored 19 goals and conceded 20.

Dario Vidosic’s side have been going through a rough patch of late, losing four out of their last five league games, most recently with a 3-2 defeat away to West Ham United, a game in which they were leading 2-0 until the 83rd minute.

Our last meeting came in October when a Marisa Olislagers own goal was enough to separate the sides at Emirates Stadium.

In the Adobe Women’s FA Cup, Brighton beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 to set up a fifth round tie away to West Ham. In the Subway Women’s League Cup, they finished third in Group C following wins over Portsmouth and Southampton and defeats to West Ham and Charlton Athletic.

Rosa Kafaji has been getting plenty of minutes under her belt on loan at Brighton this season, making 18 appearances in all competitions so far.

Renée's preview

Slegers: “They’ve had a challenging run, but I think they’re a good team and last year away at Crawley wasn’t a good performance from us and we lost that game.

"So we know what they can do, and we know that we have to, again, what we’ve done really well since January, that we have to be really humble for the task, because it won’t be easy with the circumstances, the conditions, the way Brighton play, certain threats that they have, so we really are going to have to work hard to nullify that and believe in the strengths that we have, the strengths that we possess to overcome those challenges.” - read every word of Renée’s pre-Brighton press conference.

TEAM NEWS

Anneke Borbe was still under assessment on Friday but was progressing well. Beth Mead will be out for the block with a hairline fracture on her shin.

FACTS AND STATS

Brighton have lost 14 of their 15 WSL meetings with us, however the sole exception is a 4-2 win in this exact fixture last season. The Seagulls hadn’t scored in six prior home games against us in the competition.

Of teams to face an opponent 15 or more times in the WSL, our win rate of 93% against Brighton is the most superior (P15 W14 L1).

We have won our last two away league games, including a 2-0 win over reigning champions Chelsea last time out; we will be looking to win three in a row under Renée Slegers for only the second time, after a three-match run on the road in February/March last year.

We have lost the fewest games of any side in the WSL this season (1), with us only losing fewer matches after 14 games in one of our 14 previous campaigns in the WSL (0 in 2012).

We have conceded fewer goals than any other side in the WSL this season (10), while we have kept a clean sheet in each of our last three league games; that is our longest streak of shutouts in the competition since a run of five between November 2024 and January 2025.

Olivia Smith has scored three goals in her last four matches in the WSL, while the Canadian’s two league goals against Brighton and Hove Albion are her joint-most against an opponent in the competition (level with Manchester City and Manchester United).
