The latest Premier League transfer news, as an update emerges concerning Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
Aston Villa reportedly made an enquiry to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall during the recent transfer window.
Unai Emery, responding to an injury crisis in the centre of the park, was in the market for new players to bolster his midfield. In the end, Villa went on to re-sign Douglas Luiz on loan from Juventus, but plenty of other options were explored.
Although Villa had very little financial muscle to flex due to struggles adhering to the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR), there was a little more flexibility to do loan-to-buy deals. Conversations were held about whether or not a deal could be done for Bergvall, however Spurs resisted, insisting the Sweden international was not for sale. At the moment, Bergvall is sidelined with an ankle injury, but that won’t stop speculation from building ahead of the summer months.
The Athletic’s report suggests Bergvall’s future is up in the air following the enquiries from Villa and Chelsea. Spurs fans, who named Bergvall their Player of the Season in 2024/25 following the UEFA Europa League triumph under Ange Postecoglou, will be hoping the midfielder stays put.
