West Ham may miss out on revisiting a deal they were hopeful of landing in the January transfer window.

West Ham have been dealt a blow in their reported bid to land a Brazilian midfielder this summer. The Hammers have new-found hope of survival after picking up 10 points from the last 15 available.

The Iron are now three points from safety and now in with a real chance of beating the drop, although they are in the midst of a difficult run of fixtures. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are going to have to remain consistent to catch the teams above them, two of which have just sacked their managers.

Tottenham and Nottingham Forest have both pulled the trigger, and the latter are now on their fourth manager of the season. West Ham’s form is partially to blame for those decisions, with both teams now feeling the threat of relegation.

As for West Ham themselves, they must already begin a putting together recruitment strategies for the summer, and they will likely have a Championship and Premier League plan. In the case of the latter, it seems Brazilian midfielder Matheus Martinelli is of interest, with reports emerging recently that the iron were chasing the 24-year-old.

Martinelli has already racked up well over 200 appearances fro Fluminense, but he is out of contract in the summer of 2027, and there have been doubts over his future due to that expiring deal.

But in a fresh blow to West Ham, Marcello Neves has posted an update on contract talks, claiming the two parties on the verge of a renewal deal that will see the midfielder extend his stay until 2030.

West Ham were hoping to get Martinelli for around £10million-£11million, and they were said to have expressed their interest in January, but this potential new deal will likely see the price rise significantly, and perhaps even end West Ham’s interest for now.
