Federico Gatti
West Ham target Federico Gatti
In 2024, Sport Witness covered Newcastle United’s interest in Juventus defender Federico Gatti. There were doubts about the player’s future at that point, with West Ham now emerging as a possible suitor.
This season, the Italian has played only 17 times in all competitions. The lack of game time has mainly been because of a long-term injury but after returning, he is yet to start a single time.
Gatti signed a new deal until 2030 last year, although there remain doubts about his future. This can now hand an opportunity to West Ham.
Hammers likely candidate for defender
IlBianconero have looked at possible Juve outgoings and mention Gatti quite prominently.
The outlet indicate that the 27-year-old has multiple admirers, with concrete enquiries made in the last few months.
Amidst all that, West Ham are ‘among the most interested clubs’ and the Old Lady are open to a possible sale.
It is believed Juve are looking for a significant fee to execute his transfer. A lot can depend not just on the financials of the offer but on Juve’s defensive situation.
If they have enough resources in the backline, Gatti can be sold.
Gatti can be useful for West Ham
The centre-back joined Juventus from Frosinone in January 2022. He spent the second half of the 2021/22 campaign on loan with the Serie B side and has become an important player in Turin since then.
He has now played 126 times for the Old Lady. Despite showing a lot of reliability in his tenure, there have always been doubts about Gatti’s technical ability.
Gatti is more of a pure defender than a technically proficient footballer. Beyond that, injury worries have crept up since last season.
He remains a handy defender who can play in a back four and a back three. When fit, he also comes up with the odd goal too.
All this can be quite important for West Ham, who have played multiple shapes this season.
