Newcastle United have been dealt a significant injury blow following the news that Bruno Guimaraes is expected to be ruled out for around eight weeks.
Guimaraes suffered a hamstring injury during Newcastle’s win over Tottenham, having already missed four games due to an ankle injury.
It is the most serious injury Guimaraes has ever suffered at Newcastle United and deprives Eddie Howe of arguably his most important player for an extended period of time.
Bruno is injured 😡 How does this change Newcastle’s season?!
I’m gutted and that Sunderland match looks a lot more scary now…

According to Craig Hope of The Daily Mail, the midfielder could miss as many as ten matches, so here’s a deeper look at them.
Bruno Guimaraes will miss key games against Qarabag and Sunderland
It’s unwise to try and put a specific date on his return but it does seem very likely that he will not return before April.
Clearly, Guimaraes will not play against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Saturday. If Newcastle progress, playing in the fifth round (March 7th/8th) also looks out of the question.
Fixture Date Competition
Aston Villa (A) 14 February 2026 FA Cup
Qarabag (A) 18 February 2026 Champions League
Manchester City (A) 21 February 2026 Premier League
Everton (H) 28 February 2026 Premier League
Manchester United (H) 4 March 2026 Premier League
FA Cup fifth round 7/8 March 2026 FA Cup
Champions League round of 16 10/11 March 2026 Champions League
Chelsea (A) 14 March 2026 Premier League
Champions League round of 16 17/18 March 2026 Champions League
Sunderland (H) 22 March 2026 Premier League
After that, he will miss the long trip to Qarabag in the Champions League on Wednesday 18 February, as well as the return fixture on Tuesday 24 February.

If Newcastle progress, their skipper will likely miss the round of 16 in the competition, which is played across March 10th-11th and 17th-18th.
He also looks set to be ruled out for Premier League clashes against Manchester City, Everton, Manchester United and Chelsea. Most alarmingly, he looks set to play no part in the Tyne-Wear derby at home to Sunderland on Sunday, 22nd March, 2026.

Who could replace Bruno Guimaraes for Newcastle United
Newcastle have a dreadful win percentage without Guimaraes, such is his importance to the cause.
Of the 13 games he’s missed for the club, Newcastle have won just one of them.
Sandro Tonali looks like the most obvious candidate to replace the Brazilian in the starting lineup, although his form has deserted him in recent weeks.
Lewis Miley is also currently suffering with an injury but could feasibly step in for the Brazilian too.
Joelinton, Jacob Ramsey and Joe Willock are also options, although all of them are generally seen as more attacking midfielders than Guimaraes.
