Crystal Palace are said to be interested in hiring a manager who has just been cut free.

Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in hiring a manager who was just sacked as they search for a replacement for Oliver Glasner. Glasner announced in January that he would be moving on at the end of his contract, which is this summer.

Glasner has done superb work, guiding the Eagles to Premier League stability and winning them their first-ever major trophy last season in the FA Cup. Palace also qualified for Europe for the first time as a consequence, and they remain in the Conference League this season.

Ultimately, Glasner is ready for a bigger challenge at a bigger club, and he is deserved of one, not to mention he has put up with some questionable work from those above him in the last year. Palace botched the handling of Marc Guehi’s future and they did not handle the winter window well, with the whole Jean-Philippe Mateta situation sparking plenty of debate.

But when all is said and done, Glasner and Palace will shake hands and thank each other for a memorable relationship. That does not happen much in football, and so it’s something both parties can be grateful for.

The obvious downside for Palace is that they will have to find a replacement, and one who will do a good job of following Glasner. One has to imagine the next manager will get a shorter leash with fans if they cannot live up to the standards set by Glasner over recent years.

One boss the Eagles are seemingly confident in is now former Tottenham boss Thomas Frank, who was sacked earlier this week following a rotten run that left Spurs within five points of the relegation zone. But as Palace are looking at it, there were clear issues above Frank at Tottenham, and the Dane has already proven he can work wonders with a modest budget during his impressive spell with Brentford.

According to Sports Boom, Palace are now expected to hold initial talks with Frank over their soon-to-be vacant manager post. The timing might just suit Frank, too, will get chance to have some time off, reset and then put plenty of plans together ahead of taking the job in the summer.
