A quote from the Burnley chairman’s interview with BBC Football Focus last Saturday caused anger among Clarets’ fans, who are already disillusioned with the team’s relegation woes.

Such was the backlash, it prompted Burnley FC Independent Supporters Association to release a statement condemning the comments.

Pace has used his programme notes for this afternoon’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Mansfield Town to address the backlash to his comments.

"I realise that we are all not satisfied with where we are currently, including the players and Scott [Parker], he penned.

"Hopefully though, the energy can be turned from anger and frustration to vocal support for a team and club that, while struggling, never gives up.

"Can I please just ask that you continue to do so respectfully and as the wonderful gentleman who yelled at me last Saturday said: “That’s right, take a good look at me, I’ll see you at Crystal Palace on Wednesday.”
