Manager offers positive comments for Sunderland star – Clearly being thought about

Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey has impressed in the Premier League, prompting words of encouragement from Dutch manager Ronald Koeman.

Soccer News cover comments from the Netherlands coach today. It seems he’s very much on the radar for the Dutch national team once again.

Brobbey has been impressing at Sunderland since joining from Ajax in a surprise deal at the end of the summer transfer window. His time at the Dutch giants had been difficult, to say the least, with him very much the focus of criticism from fans and pundits alike.

Its’ been nothing but positive at Sunderland, though. The 24-year-old has quickly settled in to life at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland positivity

Sport Witness have been covering the positivity for a while. On the 29th of January, the tone had very much changed, and he was now being described as a most talented youngster. That was followed by Robin Roefs taking a swipe at Ajax for how they treated him.

His performances even earned interest in the January transfer window. Fenerbahçe made a late bid for him, which the Black Cats pretty much rejected out of hand. It, did, though, show the image overhaul Brobbey is enjoying at Sunderland this season.

And it could lead him back to the Netherlands set up. Koeman is in the process of finalising his plans for the World Cup this summer.

Koeman positivity

Who he takes as his forward options is a constant source of debate. Brobbey hasn’t played since March 2025 and missed the entirety of the World Cup qualification campaign.

But his Sunderland form cannot be ignored, and the Dutch coach showed a willingness to discuss him.

“Of course, you want to have some discussion points for the final squad. The more choices, the better. So that’s only a good thing,” he said.

Slots are open too, as injuries to the likes of Justin Kluivert and Emanuel Emegha have opened up opportunities.

“It’s still early days, but it’s very frustrating for both the players who suffer injuries at the end of the season and for me,” he added.
