Tottenham Hotspur's sporting director, Johan Lange, has shed light on the decision to appoint Igor Tudor as manager until the end of the season. Tudor was unveiled as Thomas Frank's replacement on Saturday following the Dane's dismissal on Wednesday.
The Lilywhites currently find themselves in 16th place in the Premier League, a mere five points clear of the drop zone. Frank had joined Spurs from Brentford in the summer after the club parted ways with Ange Postecoglou, despite the Australian guiding them to the Europa League.
However, a poor run of form eight months later prompted another managerial change at Tottenham. Tudor comes in having left Juventus earlier this season and boasts previous stints at Marseille and Galatasaray.
In the statement announcing his appointment, Lange outlined the six key attributes that made the Croatian the right fit for the job. "Igor brings clarity, intensity and experience of stepping into challenging moments and producing impact," he said, possibly hinting at issues with Frank.
"Our objective is straightforward - to stabilise performances, maximise the quality within the squad and compete strongly in the Premier League and Champions League."
During Frank's reign, his tactical approach was frequently criticised for being overly cautious, and when pressure mounted, his side struggled to rise to the occasion. Lange's remarks suggest Tudor will be tasked with rectifying this issue for the rest of the campaign.
Speaking about Tudor's remit, Lange emphasised the need for consistent performances and a positive influence on the playing group.

Whilst Frank contended with injury problems throughout his spell, Spurs frequently fell short of expectations given the talent at their disposal.
Lastly, success in both the Premier League and Champions League was highlighted. Spurs' main priority domestically is staying clear of the drop zone, and they have edged dangerously closer in recent weeks as West Ham United have found their rhythm.
In Europe's elite competition, Spurs secured five wins from their eight league phase fixtures, including triumphs against Borussia Dortmund, Villarreal and Eintracht Frankfurt. They will resume their European campaign next month after the knockout phase play-offs.
