A former Leeds United man was called on to spare his side’s blushes in the FA Cup.
Former Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville made an immediate impact to spare key rivals West Ham’s blushes in the FA Cup - but amid a fresh blow for the Irons.
West Ham remain third-bottom in the Premier League table, six points behind 15th-placed Leeds but with the Irons and Whites both in FA Cup action this weekend.
West Ham faced a Saturday lunchtime fourth round clash at League One side Burton Albion who lined up as big underdogs but the Brewers took the game to extra time following a goalless draw after 90 minutes.
Boss Nuno Espirito Santo had made several changes to his side including dropping star man Summerville to the bench but the winger was eventually called for with seven minutes left of normal time.
Five minutes into extra time, Summerville made an immediate impact by bagging what proved the only goal of the game but West Ham were then dealt a fresh blow when a mistimed tackle led to Freddie Potts being issued with a straight red card.
Summerville’s strike ultimately proved enough to seal a 1-0 success but amid the blow of the red card for Potts who will now be facing a suspension.
