Brighton will hope to pull of a surprise FA Cup victory at Liverpool
Liverpool vs Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Anfield – 8pm
Brighton legend Bobby Zamora sees no reason why the Albion can’t deliver an FA Cup fourth round surprise at Liverpool.
The Seagulls – who beat Manchester United in the previous round at Old Trafford – were handed another tough away assignment against Arne Slot’s Premier League champions.
The Reds have been a little off colour this term but will be favourites against a Brighton team who have won just once in their last 13 Premier League outings.
The poor recent run has increased pressure on Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler and a decent FA Cup result at Anfield on Valentine’s Day would help to get the fans back on his side.
“Yeah, they seem to have sort of turned the corner,” said Brighton’s attack coach Zamora to **Sussex World, via Gambling.com theUK casino comparison experts, ahead of Brighton’s trip to Liverpool.
“Over the years, we've had some good performances against Liverpool. And, yeah, they've seemed to have sort of turned the corner at the minute, but still not the team that we sort of had thought of Liverpool over the last couple of years.
"So, going there, it'll be a very, very tough game, but there's no reason at all that we can't certainly get a result, and we'll be certainly confident about going over there and trying to put in a good performance, for sure. Looking forward to it.”
Hurzeler: We are together
Meanwhile, Hurzeler praised Brighton’s “togetherness” as they aim to turn their fortunes around. Their last victory was a 2-1 FA Cup triumph over Manchester United in January.
Since that cup game, they have not won the following five matches and slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa on Wednesday, but Hurzeler believes his side have remained resilient through a tricky 2026 so far.
“I knew before that (the players) have great personalities, great characters, but especially how they stick together on Wednesday, how they played football, how they defended, how they behaved throughout the last two, three days.
“It’s incredible because also for them it’s not an easy time. It’s easy to point on each other, but I didn’t see that.
“I really see a team that comes together, that chose to create togetherness and I think that’s the main thing how you can come out of these situations, that we keep focusing on this group full of togetherness. Then we are all convinced we can get out and can get the results we need.”
A tough week for Brighton
A tough week for Brighton saw them narrowly beaten 1-0 by rivals Crystal Palace last Sunday before the midweek Villa loss and with a Saturday night FA Cup clash against Liverpool up next, Hurzeler is determined to reach the next round.
He said: “It has to be a good mixture between bringing in fresh legs on the pitch, but also sticking with the players who did a great job against Villa. There will be a mixture, but our goal is to reach the next round. Our goal is to win this game, so we will put our best 11 on the pitch.”
