The Clarets had the opportunity to build some momentum coming off the back of Wednesday night’s comeback victory over Crystal Palace.

But Parker opted to make wholesale changes, nine in total, for Burnley’s fourth round FA Cup tie against the third tier Stags.

Burnley’s misfiring in front of goal was their main problem, squandering a host of gilt-edged chances, especially in a first-half they dominated.

But the underdogs fought back in the second period and Parker’s men had no answer, slumping to an embarrassing home defeat.

When asked if his override emotion is one of anger, Parker replied: “Yeah, I think so. I think that's fair to say.

“Really, the game should be practically out of sight during the first-half. We missed some glorious opportunities really to put the game out of sight.

“Second half, really poor, started poor. We give them something to hold on to. From that point, really, never really affected anything and it’s just a really poor, poor result.”

In a season of huge lows, Parker admits this cup shock ranks as one of the worst.

“Yeah, it's right up there,” he added. “Of course it is, it definitely is.

“You know, certainly when you come off the back of a result that we had in midweek [at Crystal Palace], you probably dampen the noise around the place a little bit and that quietens down a little bit.

“You come into this game wanting to get a result and keep that momentum. But we've just applied that noise even more now, tenfold, and rightly so.

“I'll be the first to defend certain positions here, but at this present moment in time, after today, I totally get it.”
