Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai has "one dream" of playing for Spanish giants Real Madrid, according to claims made by his Hungarian national team coach. The forward has been a hugely important player for Arne Slot's struggling Reds this season.

Szoboszlai has scored ten goals and provided seven assists in all competitions for Liverpool so far this term. The former RB Leipzig forward came back into the starting XI against Brighton in the FA Cup on Saturday after serving a one-match ban at Sunderland midweek following his sending off against Manchester City last weekend.

And the Reds star returned to action with a bang - scoring Liverpool's second goal in their 3-0 win over the Seagulls. But hearing reported comments from Hungary boss Marco Rossi on their key player will raise alarm bells on Merseyside.

According to reports in Spanish publication Marca, he said: "Szoboszlai always had one dream: to play for Real Madrid. I don't know if he'll be able to take that step, because the decision depends on him and also on his club."

The report goes on to say 'it is a confession born of closeness' and that Szoboszlai and Rossi's tight bond means the information is likely to be accurate.

Szoboszlai has been a long-time devotee of Cristiano Ronaldo, who enjoyed his finest spell at the Santiago Bernabeu. The versatile midfielder's deal at Anfield is set to run until 2028, and he revealed last month that his agents have been in discussions with Liverpool's senior officials regarding a contract extension.

The 25-year-old said: "There is always progress, but no decision has been made, and I'll just keep on going every week, every training, giving my best for the team, for the fans.

"Let's see what is going to happen in the future. There are always talks.

"You guys in the media make a lot for the [public] and you keep on going because that's your job. But there has been talks, but for sure not any decision has been made.

"Of course, I am happy here, but you know how football works and that is something everybody has to take into account."

Liverpool lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid last summer, just before his contract was set to expire. French centre-back Ibrahima Konate has also been linked with the Spanish team, with his deal set to expire in a few months, as things stand.
