Newcastle United's are expected to have a signficant summer in the transfer window. With nothing spent in January, the club are ready to move on a series of targets when trading reopens in June.
Several areas of the squad need strengthening, with work expected to be done on the defence, midfield and forward line to refresh Eddie Howe's options.
United are in need of cover at full-back, but could also look at their central defensive options, with Dan Burn and Fabian Schar both approaching their mid-30s.
The European market is thought to offer more value for money, but Newcastle have been urged to turn their attentions closer to home.

Brentford defender Nathan Collins has been pinpointed as the ideal transfer target, with the 24-year-old potentially set for a big move this summer.
Former Newcastle midfielder Jeff Hendrick is a big fan of the Republic of Ireland international, and feels he would be the perfect fit for United.
"I really like Nathan. I've said it openly over the years," he told Fruity King. "Yes, he had that one year where it didn't go well, but I think he's been a really good player and he has grown each season.
"I'm not being disrespectful to Brentford, because I know where they are in the table and how well they're doing this year.
"They have a manager there who loves him and really knows him, having worked with him from a younger age, so he's potentially getting the best out of him.
"But I think Nathan is the type of player and character who can go to one of those bigger clubs and really step up.
"I don't think it would faze him. Like I've said before, he has all the attributes, and I think going to a bigger club is the next gradual step for him. That's not knocking Brentford, they're doing better than some of the bigger clubs.
"But I think for him to get his name out there and have people really talking about him as a top defender, unfortunately, you probably don't get recognized as a top, top defender at the likes of Brentford. That's just the way football is.
"Like I said, I'm not knocking them, but everyone would be honest about that. I think he can go to a top club and I'd love to see him go to one, yeah.
"Looking at potential clubs, I think a rejig is needed in the Newcastle squad, and that's not being harsh on the players.
"Every one of them has done really well, but there is that natural progression where you have to let players go and get fresh faces in, or else you just stand still.
"So, I wouldn't be surprised if Newcastle are looking at them, among others, but he could be a great addition."
Collins has been capped 36 times by Ireland, and has notched 102 appearances for Brentford since signing from Wolves in 2023.
