Birmingham City are in FA Cup action on Sunday afternoon against Leeds United

Birmingham City striker Marvin Ducksch has been praised by his head coach Chris Davies ahead of their FA Cup tie against Leeds United. The Blues welcome the Whites to the Midlands on Sunday afternoon. A place in the fifth round is at stake for the winner.

The hosts’ priority this season is to get into the Championship play-offs. They were promoted from League One last year and want to go up to the Premier League as soon as possible. Davies’ men are two points off the top six but have a distraction from league action this weekend.

Birmingham swooped to sign Ducksch last summer from Werder Bremen. He was landed by the Blues to boost their attacking department and inject more firepower into their squad. The attacker has scored eight goals in 23 games this season, seven of which have come in the league.

Prior to his move to England, the forward bagged 54 goals in 134 matches for Bremen. The 31-year-old, who has made two caps for Germany in the past, has also had spells in the past with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, FC St Pauli, Fortuna Dusseldorf and Hannover 96.

Davies expects Ducksch to cause Leeds some problems in their upcoming tie. He has said, as per BirminghamLive: “He does thrive on these types of games. He sees himself as a big player. He’s had big moments and he doesn’t shirk these games, he wants to show what we can do.

“My challenge is, as I said earlier in the month, the under-rotation earlier in the season in three-game weeks was something I reflected on and thought about how we play better in the third game because we looked jaded in that third game. I’ve got to find a balance of getting freshness into the team without losing continuity. There is a fine balance there and that’s something I’m considering for this next match.”

He added: “Marvin has been doing well and I think he’s found his best position in our system. Marvin has come up with some big later moments in games. He’s in that position, but Jay (Stansfield) has proven he can do it as well. We’ve got August (Priske) , and Kyogo (Furuhashi) who is obviously a striker, so Jay is capable of doing it. (Kanya) Fujimoto is also part of the squad.

“Marvin is not going to be able to carry it the whole time as the 10, we are going to need other options and that’s something I’ve been thinking about and working on this week.”
