Hurzeler weighs up options after key player returns from injury

And his return could see him back in a midfield role.

Wieffer made his comeback from a toe injury in the later stages of the FA Cup tie at Liverpool.

He has often been used a right-back but went on in what is his more customary role in midfield.

Speaking on BBC Radio Sussex, Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler said of the midfield role: "It is definitely an opportunity or a possibility.

“We are happy he is back because he is a key player for us.

“He has physicality we need in certain areas.”

Wieffer was making his first appearance since the 2-1 defeat at Arsenal on December 27.

When asked about Matt O’Riley ahead of the Anfield match, Hurzeler had said it could be a chance for him to shine after his recent return from loan at Marseille.

But, though he was at Anfield, he was not part of the matchday squad.

Hurzeler told The Argus: “We had to make a decision. We had a big squad today, so therefore we had to leave two players out.”
