‘Will be looking’ – Leeds United interest in Lucas Perri replacement confirmed for summer

Leeds United are almost certain to bring in a new goalkeeper if they survive in the Premier League this season. Lucas Perri has not convinced, and the club are expected to sign a new number one in the summer.

Farke indicated that he would have liked to bring in a new goalkeeper in the winter window, given how poor Perri has been this season, and Karl Darlow has not exactly been flawless.

Darlow’s contract expires in the summer, and it is unclear whether he will be offered a new deal. Perri could still win back his place, but he has not looked like someone who could be the number one goalkeeper for a Premier League team.

Leeds are keeping tabs on several goakeepers and Pete O’Rourke confirmed their interest in one of the shot-stoppers from a Premier League team.

Leeds United’s interest in James Trafford confirmed

Trafford is expected to leave Manchester City in the summer transfer window, and O’Rourke confirmed that Leeds are among the clubs that are interested in him.

The Whites are expected to sign a new goalkeeper if they are in the Premier League next season, and the Manchester City goalkeeper is one of their primary targets.

He also confirmed Aston Villa and Newcastle’s long-term interest in getting their hands on Trafford in the summer transfer window.

O’Rourke said on Transfer Insider Podcast: “Leeds will be among a number of Premier League clubs who’ll be looking at Trafford’s situation come the summer window.

“Aston Villa are looking at him, Newcastle have held a long-term interest in Trafford as well and came close to signing him before he ended up going back to Manchester City.

“If Leeds were to stay up, it might be an area that they might look to strengthen in. [There is] lots of water to go under the bridge before anything happens on that front, but I’m sure there’ll be a lot of clubs who’ll be looking at Trafford’s situation.

“A lot will depend on what the player himself wants to do, if he wants to move away in search of regular first-team football come next summer.”

Leeds need a new goalkeeper next season

Perri was brought in to replace the erratic Illan Meslier in the summer. However, the Brazilian has not looked good enough in the Premier League.

He has not started a league game since the 4-3 defeat at Newcastle United, and while Darlow has also committed errors, he has looked steadier between the sticks.

Perri is expected to be given a chance to win back his place in the team. However, Leeds are looking at new goalkeepers to replace him next season.

The Brazilian has neither offered security between the sticks nor has he looked good on the ball when asked to play out from the back.

He has not looked like a goalkeeper who can hold down the number one spot in a Premier League team, and is likely to be replaced in the summer.
