How Albion players fared as they lost FA Cup tie at Liverpool

This is how they fared in another disappointing match which, again, left them looking to salvage some positives.

Jason Steele 6.5/10

Made an excellent save from Kerkez and was pretty composed with his ball at feet. No blame attached on the goals but was not as busy as in the third round.

Joel Veltman 7/10

Quite a steady outing at right-back as he went up against Gakpo with occasional ventures forward.

Jan Paul van Hecke 7/10

Made a couple of important blocks and defended pretty well before protecting his hamstring with the contest over.

Lewis Dunk 7/10

Saw his header across goal pawed away by Alisson at 1-0 and did some pretty good defending.

Ferdi Kadioglu 5.5/10

Maybe unlucky on the penalty having initially been outwitted by Salah but was caught out by Jones’ movement on the opening goal. Promised more than he delivered going forward.

Carlos Baleba 6/10

Without really stamping authority on the midfield contest, there were one or two moments which showed him at his forceful best. Just needs to keep doing that but more so.

Jack Hinshelwood 6/10

Battled away and showed confidence in where he got on the ball but missed a great chance with a header at a key time.

Harry Howell 6/10

More valuable experience. Looked at ease on the ball and delivered a great corner for Hinshelwood but there were significant moments which will have taught him about the defensive levels required.

Pascal Gross 6/10

Some tidy work on the ball at times but his admirable defensive graft was just a bit too much on the penalty.

Diego Gomez 6/10

Made a forceful early drive at the Liverpool defence and did some good stuff defensively but failed to take a great chance on half-time and was left in Szoboszlai’s wake for the second goal.

Charalampos Kostoulas 6/10

A tall order to lead the attack and worked hard with just a few glimpses of promise.

SUBS - Kaoru Mitoma 6,5/10

After losing possession with his first touch, he added something to the Albion attack, volleying at Alisson, and probably saved a goal with his chase back to stop Salah.

Georginio Rutter 6/10

Swirled a shot wide as it became increasingly clear Albion were never going to score.

Yankuba Minteh 6/10

Buzzed around on the right.

Olivier Boscagli and Mats Wieffer N/A

Both went on in the later stages, the latter in midfield on his return from injury.
