Wayne and Coleen Rooney's youngest child is celebrating a special occasion today as he marks his eighth birthday. The former Everton forward and his wife have four children together. Their first son Kai was born in 2009, followed by Klay in 2013, Kit in 2016 and Cass in 2018.
Coleen posted a picture of Cass to Instagram this afternoon and captioned it: "Our boy with the best smile is 8 today! We love you so much Cass, keep being that kind, wise funny boy that you are." The family share a close bond and the proud mum and dad regularly offer insights into their home lives.
When Coleen was in the I'm A Celebrity jungle in 2024, she spoke about her children and marriage to the Premier League legend with other campmates. Explaining the reason behind not having all of the names begin with a letter K, she said: "I looked up the meaning of the name Cassius and with a K it meant blackbird, and with a C it meant clever."
Deciding on Cassius, Coleen and Rooney then chose Mac for his middle name given her maiden name was McLoughlin, and her friends used to nickname her Coleen Mac. As Coleen's middle name was Mary, this then meant Cass would have the same initials as her, CMR.

The Croxteth native opened up on having four boys, she admitted: "I would've liked a girl for Wayne, I wasn't desperate, he would've liked a girl, I wasn't bothered either way."
It has been a busy 2026 so far for the Rooney family, last month they celebrated the birthday of Kit. Coleen said: "Our boy Kit is 10 today!! Have the best day with all your friends … we love you so much." And the couple recently made the trip to Old Trafford to watch their eldest son, Kai, play football.
Kai followed in his dad's footsteps and made his first competitive appearance for Manchester United at Old Trafford. He featured as the team won in an FA Cup Youth match.
Kai came on as a substitute against Derby County in the under-18s clash, which saw Manchester United reach the quarterfinals after a 2-1 extra time win. Coleen and Wayne watched from the stands as Kai entered the pitch in the 99th minute as the game was still without a goal.
The promising footballer joined Man United's academy in 2020 at the age of 11. Kai had posted a photo on Instagram showing him with his dad on the Old Trafford pitch as a child prior to kick off. Coleen also posted pictures to her social media account, showing her son's shirt in the locker room and his boots laid out.
Rooney recently opened up about his son's promising football career in an interview with BBC. He said: "He has great coaches at Manchester United, so I take a stand off approach. I speak to him, but for me it's all about his mentality and his mindset, to make sure he keeps enjoying it - that's the main thing for me."
