Mikel Arteta's genius FA Cup tactic against Wigan could win the Premier League title

Arsenal were at their brilliant best on Sunday afternoon, showcasing their class against Wigan Athletic who struggled to fashion a chance against the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta's side were clearly the Premier League side as they produced free-flowing football to put the game beyond any doubt in the opening 30 minutes of the game. The Latics were already chasing the game in the 11th minute when Noni Madueke continued his golden vein of form.

And in a brutal 19 minutes, Arsenal found the back of the net three more times as Wigan looked dazed and stunned by the occasion. However, there was one tactical decision that gave fans confidence for the Premier League.

Gabriel Martinelli started the game out on the left wing, but he played his best football when he drifted inside.

The Gunners splashed the cash on Viktor Gyokeres, but the Swedish star hasn't been the clinical striker that ripped up the record books in Portugal. And Martinelli might just hold the keys for the Premier League title.

Martinelli's movement across the backline was causing all sorts of problems for Wigan, and, in turn, it opened up more room for Gyokeres to operate.

"Martinelli is such an obvious striker and it’s so annoying we haven’t used him there," one fan moaned on social media. While a second said: "Martinelli is a striker. Look at how he uses his pace and the run. Arteta needs to mix things up in the Premier League to get results like this!"

"Martinelli is one of the players I really like. I see him as a lethal striker because of his runs and the way he times them," a third posted.

And another added: "Martinelli could be the solution to the striker issue at the SS position. To be a foil to a target man..."

There is growing talk of a potential quadruple for Arsenal at the Emirates. Their lead at the top of the Premier League has been trimmed, but the Gunners remain four points clear as the title race intensifies.

Mikel Arteta’s side are battling Manchester City on multiple fronts - going head-to-head for both the league title and the Carabao Cup. They also cruised through their Champions League group, finishing top of the league phase.

Next up is the fifth round of the FA Cup, keeping their hopes of a historic four-trophy haul very much alive.
