One West Ham United star has continued to shine throughout their troubles this season

West Ham United return to Premier League action next weekend as they look to continue their fight against the drop following Saturday’s involvement in the FA Cup fourth round.

The Hammers host Bournemouth next Saturday evening (17:30 GMT) and will hope to return to winning ways against the Cherries, who have found renewed form themselves over recent weeks and have not lost in six league games, winning four of those including an impressive 2-1 result away at Everton last time out.

Two stoppage-time goals have cost West Ham crucial points in recent matches, as Chelsea completed a stunning 3-2 comeback win while Manchester United stole a 96th-minute equaliser at London Stadium in a 1-1 draw. The atmosphere around the club has undoubtedly seen a turn for the better, though, and fans will feel more confident that their side – currently still in 18th place – have enough to make up their current deficit and beat the drop come the end of the season.

‘For sure’ - Harry Redknapp speaks on West Ham star’s World Cup chances

West Ham have undoubtedly had a tough season and have seen their critics on many occasions throughout this campaign and those which preceded it. One player who has remained near the top of his game throughout it all is Jarrod Bowen.

The Hammers captain has registered eight Premier League goals and three assists this season, following on from his 13 league strikes last term, and 16 the year before that. The 29-year-old has not only shown consistency in his performances on the pitch, but he has also demonstrated his love for the club and his desire to drag the Irons away from relegation danger.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast on Wednesday morning, former West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp spoke with host Ally McCoist about Bowen and his chances of going to the World Cup with England this summer.

McCoist asked the former West Ham boss: “Harry, quick question for you – I’m taking Bowen to the USA for the World Cup, are you?”

“Yeah, for sure, he would be in my squad,” responded Redknapp. “You’d have him anywhere, wouldn’t you? He gives it absolutely everything, you know, he works, he scores goals, he’s a great team player and he’s got real good ability. I love him, he is Mr West Ham for me at the moment, he has been amazing.”

Will Bowen be named in England’s World Cup squad this summer?

There is certainly high competition for places in the wide areas in the England squad, but Bowen offers something different. With his mix of experience, heart and true goalscoring ability, the Hammers skipper will feel like he has as much of a chance as any of the Three Lions’ wide players of earning a spot on the plane to North America this summer.

Bowen has been named in four of Thomas Tuchel’s five England squads since the German began the role at the start of 2025 and has featured in four of the Three Lions’ last five matches. Tuchel is clearly a fan of the 20-cap forward, who scored his only goal for his country so far against the Republic of Ireland in November 2024.

Whether or not Bowen earns a spot in the World Cup squad will ultimately come down to how he performs for West Ham for the remainder of the season. If the 29-year-old can inspire the Hammers to survive relegation and gets himself well into double figures for goals once again, he will feel he has a strong chance to represent his country at a World Cup for the first time in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
