The former Sheffield United man is at Deepdale for the season on loan

Former Preston North End striker Neil Mellor would explore the possibility of signing Daniel Jebbison after this season, if the chance arises.

The 22-year-old will return to parent club AFC Bournemouth, where he will have two years left to run on his contract. Lilywhites boss Paul Heckingbottom isn’t sure where the Canadian will stand in the summer. The pair worked together at Sheffield United and Jebbison jumped at the opportunity to reunite with Heckingbottom.

He has endured some frustration with niggling injuries but overall, has played 26 games across all competitions, scoring five goals and assisting two. North End’s boss stressed the need for Jebbison to become more robust again, having missed the recent home win over Portsmouth - which followed the Canadian’s excellent display at Ipswich Town.

For ex-PNE man Mellor, though, the six foot two forward boasts some excellent traits and could go from strength to strength over the next few years. Heckingbottom has consistently labelled Jebbison’s athleticism as Premier League level. For that reason, Mellor would be all for Preston chancing their arm this summer.

Speaking to the Lancashire Post, Mellor said: “There is a player there, no doubt about it. I think certain players need that little bit of confidence; an arm around the shoulder.

“When I have seen him, I just feel as though he can be an absolute handful at this level. His goal return hasn’t been great his season.

“He’s only got five and is going through a run where he hasn’t scored, but as soon as he comes out of that run you will see a different player. I think he can make a difference between now and the end of the season.”
