Why it'll be no great disaster if Everton don't get European football, amid promising position…

Everton currently sit in a promising position in the Premier League table.

It’s 37 points taken from 26 games and at the moment, the Toffees sit in that glob of clubs vying for some form of European football.

Just 10 points separate 5th and 12th at the moment, and there could well be a frantic finish to the season for the clubs currently in those positions.

Is David Moyes doing enough at Everton to earn himself a new contract? 🫣

If not, who would you like to see replace him? 😬

It’s been an interesting start to the new calendar year for Everton.

There have been great wins against Aston Villa and Fulham, but David Moyes’ side have continued to stutter at home, dropping points against the likes of Brentford, Leeds United and Bournemouth.

The latest loss against Bournemouth left some fans quite disgruntled, having been 1-0 up in the game.

While Everton are still in a good position, it is worth remembering that it actually won’t be a disaster if the club don’t get European football.

As we know, when clubs play in European competitions, their schedule becomes a lot more hectic.

Of course this season, we have seen Everton’s squad struggle to cope without European football, although it can be argued that if Everton did have European football the recruitment team would make sure the squad had more players in it.

But it would still be a difficult campaign for David Moyes to manage.

This is also a fairly young squad, and some players are yet to really get comfortable at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

We have not yet seen the best of the likes of Tyler Dibling and Merlin Rohl, and Tyrique George – who will hopefully turn his move permanent in the summer – has only just arrived.

There is the notion here of Everton securing European football ‘too soon’.

Give us your gut feeling… will Everton make it into Europe? 🌍

The Friedkin Group only acquired the club in December 2024, and there is a long term plan in place.

At the moment, we are still in the stability phase, after the club came close to being relegated several times under Farhad Moshiri.

Everton were crawling. Now, it is paramount that they start walking again before running.

Patience will be a virtue

Everton are indeed in a great position at the moment, and European football is still very much a possibility.

But if Moyes – who feels Everton need some surprise wings to attain European football – ends up falling short, then it’ll be no great disaster. It’ll merely be a minor frustration.

But perspective is required.

Everton would then have another season just to get things in order and stabilise some more. This term was always going to be about consolidating in mid-table, and keeping well away from the relegation zone. Anything more, with the new owners’ plan being in its infancy, would be a bonus.

Naturally expectations have grown in the fanbase as a result of Everton perhaps being further along than anticipated.

But make no mistake about it, missing out on European football – which brings so much physical exertion – this time around would not be the disaster some are making it out to be.
