Everton pulled off a coup when they signed Jack Grealish last summer, but the regular game time has attracted attention from elsewhere.

Everton’s summer transfer plans have been made easier knowing that David Moyes doesn’t have to do much persuading to get one of his top targets through the door.

It seemed fanciful to suggest that a player on the sort of salary that Jack Grealish is on at Man City could be afforded and yet the Toffees boss pulled off a huge coup to bring him to the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The 30-year old playmaker might only have scored two goals in 20 Premier League fixtures, however, he has been integral in guiding the club into the top half of the division.

Everton given cut-price Grealish opportunity

Signed on a £50m option to buy loan deal, reports have suggested that City could be willing to negotiate on this price tag to get them off their books and free up some much-needed space on their wage bill. As seen in his last season at the Etihad, despite a key role in their treble winning season, Pep Guardiola has moved on from the England international.

Football Insider has claimed that £20m could be the figure needed to secure Grealish on a permanent basis which would see Moyes land the leader that he needs in the forward line. The former Aston Villa creator settled immediately on Merseyside and has clearly loved his time playing for Everton. He was visibly gutted that his season was cut short due to injury.

Why Everton could miss out on Grealish

Pete O’Rourke, speaking on Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, explained that Everton might not have it all their own way though: “I’m sure there’s other Premier League clubs who will be monitoring his situation at City as well. As I said he’s got back to his best form during that loan spell at Everton as well so there’ll be other clubs who will be keeping tabs on his long-term situation as well.

“Not just in the Premier League, but in Europe because he has impressed with Everton. I think you probably have to say that Everton are in pole position to sign Grealish if he does end up leaving Man City. The positive news for Everton here is that Grealish is very much open for a return to Everton.

“He’s really enjoyed his time at the club, which has obviously been cut short by this injury which was a big blow to him and a big blow for Everton as well. He has performed well for Everton, six assists and two goals in 20 Premier League appearances, he’s really enjoying working under David Moyes.” Everton are in pole position, but any dithering and Moyes might miss out on a player who could easily become club captain in the not-so-distant-future.
