‘Since he’s been at the club…’ – Former Leeds United manager gives honest opinion on Daniel…

Leeds United ensured their FA Cup run continued by defeating Birmingham City to book their place in the fifth round of the competition.

It was fair from a straightforward afternoon at St Andrew’s for Daniel Farke’s men, who were second best for the majority of the game.

Lucas Perri was one of the few to impress for Leeds, with the Brazilian shot stopper having one of his better games for United since arriving over the summer.

Lukas Nmecha also impressed with an incredible strike that put Leeds up a goal against the run of play, with the German forward earning praise from a former Leeds manager.

Simon Grayson makes sensational Lukas Nmecha claim

Nmecha, 27, started in Leeds’ two most recent outings against Chelsea and Birmingham, with the forward scoring during both games.

His goal against Birmingham takes his tally for the season to seven goals in all competitions.

Speaking after the game on LUTV, former Leeds boss Grayson gave his honest thoughts on Nmecha.

“Well, ultimately that’s what they’re judged on, their career and the seasons when they’re playing,” Grayson said.

“They can have really good seasons and not score too many times, and they will be found critical of their output, of the number of goals, but Nmecha, since he’s been at the club, gives the club something different, the team something different.

“He’s strong, he’s powerful, staying fit has been a question that’s been asked about him, but when he’s on his day, he’s a big, strong boy that can hold people off, and he puts his foot through these opportunities, and with the balls they use in the modern day, they can fly past the ‘keeper, and he did have no chance.”

Nmecha’s wonderful strike within five minutes of the restart after half-time was the forward’s only effort of the game as his clinical run in front of goal continues.

Data suggests Lukas Nmecha has been incredibly efficient in front of goal this season

So far during his first Premier League campaign with the Whites, Nmecha has scored six goals from an expected goals of 5.7.

However, another fascinating stat about Leeds’ number 14 is that he has scored with the last three shots he has taken.

His penalty against Chelsea was also his only shot during the game, which he converted

The German also scored a 93rd-minute winner back in January against Fulham to make it three goals from his last three shots (Sofascore)

Nmecha can count himself unfortunate that Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been such a revelation this season, as it could be argued that Nmecha’s goal record this season has warranted more game time.

Perhaps his recent hot streak in front of goal may convince Farke to deploy both him and Calvert-Lewin up top together in a 3-5-2 more regularly.
