Manchester United return to action on Monday night when they visit Everton in the Premier League.
The Red Devils have enjoyed an impressive run of form under caretaker head coach Michael Carrick, who took charge last month following the departure of Ruben Amorim.
Carrick was only appointed on a temporary basis until the end of the season, but the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has overseen four wins and a draw from his first five games in charge.
While those in charge of the club will be weighing up a permanent appointment this summer, it appears that one of the most senior people at Manchester United is keen for the club to sign a player from a fierce rival.
As reported by The Mirror, United co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is keen for the club to sign midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from rivals Liverpool.
The report claims that the British billionaire has identified the Argentina international as a possible transfer target.
Mac Allister is a key part of Arne Slot’s Liverpool side, however, having made more than 130 appearances since joining the club from Brighton and Hove Albion back in 2023.

The midfielder has featured 37 times across all competitions so far this term – including in 25 of the Reds’ 26 Premier League games – and plays a crucial role for the Merseyside outfit.
Transfers between Man United and Liverpool are extremely few and far between, with the most recent example of a player moving directly from one club to the other being Phil Chisnall more than 60 years ago.
Despite the rarity of deals ocurring between the two clubs – and Mac Allister’s importance to Liverpool – it is claimed that Ratcliffe is keeping United’s options open and could be keen to make a move to sign the player if he were to become available.
