FA Cup draw: Newcastle United, Sunderland, Leeds United & co discover Fifth Round opponents

FA Cup draw: Newcastle United will discover who they will face in the Fifth Round of the FA Cup this evening.

Goals from Sandro Tonali and Nick Woltemade ensured that the Magpies left Villa Park with their place in the hat for the next round of the FA Cup confirmed. That was only half the story of a chaotic night in the midlands, though, as a plethora of refereeing decisions left many scratching their heads.

Chris Kavanagh and his assistants failed to spot that Tammy Abraham was offside as he scored the opening goal of the night, before Lucas Digne was fortunate not to be shown a red card for catching Jacob Murphy with his studs.

Although Kavanagh’s decision to send off Marco Bizot for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity was correct, the 6,000 strong travelling contingent were again left baffled as he failed to award the Magpies a penalty for a handball by Digne in the penalty box, instead giving Newcastle United just a free-kick.

Tonali’s goal from the resulting free-kick ensured that Newcastle United would not go on to rue those game-changing errors as they secured a third-successive FA Cup Fifth Round appearance.
