Leeds United send scout to PL rivals’ FA Cup clash – Two young talents identified: Report

Leeds United reportedly had a representative in place to watch over Manchester City’s FA Cup tie against League Two Salford City.

Premier League football took a back seat at the weekend. Meanwhile, Leeds and our league rivals took to the FA Cup fourth round.

There was a shock down at the bottom end of the table with Burnley being dumped out by League One Mansfield. But, it was smooth sailing for those remaining at the top of the division.

Leeds United send scout to watch Manchester City 2-0 Salford City

A report from Scouts In Attendance claims that United have been casting an eye over other Premier League clubs during this FA Cup weekend.

They claim that Leeds had a representative at the Etihad Stadium for Manchester City’s home tie against League Two side Salford City.

Pep Guardiola’s side ran out 2-0 winners against former Leeds coach Karl Robinson, thanks to goals from Alfie Dorrington (OG) and Marc Guehi.

The account states that Leeds could have actually been looking at two of the visitors’ star names. Namely, own goal scorer Dorrington, currently on loan from Spurs, and Sunderland loanee goalkeeper Matty Young.

Who else could Leeds United have been looking at in Manchester City 2-0 Salford City?

Dorrington and Young would make sense as potential long-term investments for Leeds. Our goalkeeper department needs improvement, and a young centre-back is something Daniel Farke mentioned as an option during January.

Looking at the same positions in the Man City squad, there’s two very viable candidates that our scout surely had a glimpse at.

Max Alleyne started after his January recall from Watford. The 20-year-old will find it tough to break into Man City’s lineup long-term. It’s worth noting their penchant for just buying whatever starters Guardiola requires – see Guehi in January. Alleyne could be the sort of young centre-back understudy Leeds are after.

Elsewhere, James Trafford in goal showed his class with a fine save at 1-0. The 23-year-old is another that’s going to find regular opportunities hard to come by. His summer arrival from Burnley was swiftly followed by the Citizens splashing out on Gigi Donnarumma.

Trafford spoke at full-time and was very clearly not happy with how he was usurped as Man City’s first-choice ‘keeper mere weeks after signing.

“It wasn’t what I expected coming into the season,” Trafford told the BBC. “It’s the reality and I have to give it my best shot. It’s the situation I’m in. We train every day but making saves, it’s good fun.”
