Another muscular issue for Bournemouth loanee – Clause targets now in doubt

Injuries continue to haunt Bournemouth loanee Luis Sinisterra’s career, with another muscular setback in Brazil raising fresh doubts over his rhythm and international ambitions.

As told by Itatiaia Esporte, the winger suffered another setback on Wednesday during Cruzeiro’s 2-2 draw with Mirassol. He felt discomfort in his right thigh late in the second half. The Brazilian club have yet to confirm the severity of the issue.

Sinisterra has featured in only two of Cruzeiro’s ten matches in 2026. He played against Mirassol and in the 2-0 win over América in the state championship.

Before that, he had been following a specific recovery programme after ending 2025 with an oedema in his left thigh during the Copa do Brasil semi-final against Corinthians.

Recurring muscle pattern

Since arriving on loan from Bournemouth in August, Sinisterra has struggled to find continuity. He suffered muscular problems in both thighs in September, October and December. All his issues have been muscle-related.

That pattern mirrors what happened in England. During the 2024/25 season, he made 14 appearances for Bournemouth, scoring once and providing one assist. He missed most of the campaign due to physical problems. Those setbacks ultimately led Bournemouth to sanction a loan in the hope he could rebuild rhythm elsewhere.

Cruzeiro paid around £2.1m (€2.5m) for the loan until June, as per Globo Esporte. The agreement includes an obligation to buy part of his rights for a further £3.0m (€3.5m), but only if specific performance targets are met.

However, his limited appearances may affect those conditions. With only two games played in 2026 and more time on the sidelines likely, the numbers required to trigger clauses become harder to reach.

World Cup ambition under threat

The Colombian’s broader ambition also takes a hit. One of Sinisterra’s main goals was to regain form at Cruzeiro and return to the national team. His last appearance for Colombia came in October 2024.

Even if he recovers quickly, time is tight. He would need a strong and uninterrupted run of performances to convince Néstor Lorenzo to include him in a 26-man World Cup squad.

At present, recurring injuries continue to define the narrative of his loan spell, leaving Bournemouth and Cruzeiro facing familiar questions about durability rather than potential.
