The 26-year-old French-born former Brentford star impressed in the 2024-25 campaign under ex-Bees manager Thomas Frank at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Mbeumo netted a stunning 20 times and registered eight assists in 38 Premier League matches for Brentford last season ahead of his move to Manchester United.

Mbeumo played the full 90 minutes of the Championship play-off clash at Brentford and he says Gala’s ‘Freed From Desire’ track is something he closely connects to them.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official magazine, he said: “I had a friend who played piano, and I went to their house one day and she was playing, and I was like: that’s so beautiful. And I wanted to try to learn.

“I always like to learn new things in life. It’s relaxing as well, so I really like that. Right now, I’m learning ‘7 Years’ by Lukas Graham and I’m playing almost every day. I’ve just bought a new piano.

“Are there any important songs from my career? ‘Freed From Desire.’ It was played when we won the play-offs [with Brentford] so I still listen to that.”

Why former Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo holds a strong affinity with music now at Man Utd

Mbeumo insisted that his father influenced his musical tastes when he was a child, but the Cameroon star has since adopted his own interests in different music.

“Music [is] really important to me, because I grew up with it,” he explained, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“I remember every Sunday my dad would put music on during the cleaning of the house, so every Sunday, we’d have it on. When I was a bit older, I was listening to my own music.

“My dad would play only African music and sometimes I listen to that now, but most of the time it’s French rap, Afrobeat and piano music.”

Mbeumo has made 42 appearances across all competitions for Man Utd this season and the Cameroon international has nine assists to his name as well.
