The under-fire Clarets boss decided to make nine changes to his side for the fourth round tie against Mansfield Town.

While many have questioned the need for so many changes, others have accused those who came into the starting XI of failing to take their chance.

The likes of Jacob Bruun Larsen and Loum Tchaouna were particularly disappointing, missing a big chance apiece to extend Burnley’s lead in the first half.

They weren’t the only ones to struggle though, with virtually every player below-par as the Clarets suffered an embarrassing cup humbling.

Perhaps the only positive of those to come in was James Ward-Prowse, who showed his quality on the ball on his first Clarets start.

But as for the others, no-one particularly delivered a display that will put them in contention for Saturday’s return to league action at Chelsea.

While Parker accepts some of his players didn’t reach the heights he possibly expected, he refused to blame them for Burnley’s cup exit.

“I'm always reluctant to point that finger,” he said.

"I think that's fair to say, in some cases here, but the opportunities come and we're just disappointed overall.

"Certainly, with our performance in the second half, we just fell well short and that was the way it went.”
