Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes is back in Brazil to undergo treatment at his old club Atlético Mineiro.
The Toon skipper will be treated by his former club doctor Rodrigo Lasmar at the Cidade do Galo complex in Brazil. The reason Bruno is being treated in his home country comes after an agreement between Newcastle and the Brazilian FA.
Bruno suffered the hamstring injury in last Tuesday's 2-1 victory over Tottenham and was spotted in pain as he left the field in the capital.
Brazil chiefs want Bruno back in full working order in time for the World Cup finals in June. Newcastle hope that Bruno will be back by April to play a part in Newcastle's season with the Magpies still battling on two fronts.
Bruno was pictured wearing training kit from his old club Atletico Mineiro and will spend one month in Brazil. The next week will be spent with Lasmar recovering in Belo Horizonte.
Suggestions in Brazil are that Bruno has suffered a grade three hamstring injury and only 'narrowly' avoided surgery. A statement from the Brazilian club showed Bruno pictured with Lasmar and a statement that read: "He knows what’s best for him!
"Bruno Guimarães continues his injury treatment at Cidade do Galo. Under the supervision of Dr. Rodrigo Lasmar and with the support of the best medical department among Brazilian clubs, the player is preparing to return to the pitch in the best possible way! May you be back on the field soon, Bruno!"
Bruno was understandably left out of the Brazil squad to face France and Croatia in the final international selections before the World Cup. Head coach Eddie Howe was asked about Bruno's absence and said: "He will out until around the next international break. The March international break that he will be back.
"He has a period of time now where he will have to work hard on his hamstring to make sure he is fully fit but we are looking at that period of time."
Newcastle, meanwhile, will assess Guimaraes' midfield partner and fellow Brazilian Joelinton today. The enforcer has been out with a strain of his own and has had treatment in Barcelona but could be on the flight to Baku.
