Julian Ryerson
Lisbon, Portugal – 02 11 2025: Julian Ryerson seen during UEFA Champions League game between teams of Sporting CP and Borussia Dortmund
Manchester United and Newcastle United are in the picture to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Ryerson in the summer.
That’s according to Bild, who report Manchester United and Newcastle United have joined Barcelona in the transfer race.
The right-back has starred for BVB this season, contributing 13 assists from 29 matches in all competitions. His statistics are one of the reasons that make the player more attractive in the market.
Manchester United and Newcastle United keen
Barcelona have already set their sights on the 28-year-old, mainly because of Hansi Flick. He knows the German market well from his time with their national team and Bayern Munich.
The La Liga side’s manager sees the Norway international as a serious alternative to Jules Koundé, his first choice right-back at the Camp Nou. The Spanish giants aren’t alone and will face competition from the Premier League.
In August, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany about both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sunderland interest. It’s unclear whether these two clubs still have him on their radar.
Bild now report Manchester United and Newcastle United are keen on signing the BVB player.
It’s claimed the Red Devils and Eddie Howe’s side are ‘seriously considering’ bringing him to Old Trafford and St James’ Park respectively.
Ryerson’s preferred position is on the right side of defence and he can also operate as a left-back and a centre-back. Bild state he is ‘a robust and exemplary fighter, who pushes himself to the limit in every game’.
Affordable price for Red Devils and Magpies
The versatile defender has a contract until 2028. According to the report, he has a market value of €20m, affordable for Manchester United and Newcastle United.
In addition to this, the fullback earns €5m per year and could improve his salary with the Red Devils or the Tyneside club.
The Bundesliga side, for their part, are reluctant to let him leave after this season. At the same time, Ryerson’s sale would help them improve their finances.
Borussia Dortmund will have a decision to make if Manchester United, Newcastle United or Barcelona were to make a serious approach in the summer.
