Simon Jordan defends Evangelos Marinakis after Nottingham Forest appoint Vitor Pereira

Simon Jordan has been discussing the decision by Nottingham Forest to appoint Vitor Pereira live on TalkSPORT, with his claims proving very interesting.

Forest sacked Sean Dyche last week after just 114 days in the managerial hotseat, with the head coach carrying the can for a thrashing at Leeds and a miserable home draw against Wolves.

Vitor Pereira has sent the fans a message but what advice would YOU give the new Nottingham Forest boss?

Let us know in the comments below…

Senior players revolted against Dyche, leaving Marinakis with no choice but to pull the plug and name a fourth head coach of the season.

Forest have been critiqued for ditching the media darling Dyche but the club – and Marinakis – have found sympathy from Jordan given his recent comments.

Simon Jordan makes passionate Marinakis defence

Naturally, it’s far from ideal that Marinakis has been forced into appointing a fourth manager of the season and it might well cost Forest their Premier League status.

However, under Dyche, Forest were sinking quickly and there isn’t really much to lose in terms of making the change and rolling the dice once again.

Jordan thinks Marinakis has earned the right to do as he wishes at Forest and believes he makes the calls based on what is in the best interests of the football club.

He said on TalkSPORT: “The one thing you can’t deny, and I don’t know why we would need to scrutinise it, I don’t know why we have to turn around and say ‘Well, you did all these wonderful things and you dragged the club that’s been in demise for 23 years, and you single-handedly pulled it, pushed it, cajoled it, persuaded it, and dragged it into the Premier League and kept it there. But recently, Not so good, so you shouldn’t be supported anymore’.

“You should be, you should be the victim of instantaneous gratification, and, and I loathe that mentality. I think it’s an easy default setting to go to from people that have never done these things.

“The fans that support the owner are comfortable with their owner, so why do we as the media need to come along and drive a wedge between the fans that are happy with their owner, because they recognise that maybe he’s made a few ricks recently, maybe things have got ahead of themselves, but by the way, on the balance of probability, he’s the best thing that’s happened to Nottingham Forest in a quarter of a century…”

Marinakis will learn from this season

The Greek owner will take no satisfaction from the fact that Forest haven’t been able to kick on this season after qualifying for Europe last season.

Marinakis will be desperate for Forest to maintain their Premier League status this season with the top-flight where the owner wants his club to be.

Given it took Forest 23 years to get back to the Premier League, supporters would deem relegation as being completely disastrous and setting the club back many years.

Marinakis had to pull the plug on Dyche, however, with the performances going backwards and the players clearly not having his methods.

Now, only time will tell whether Marinakis has made the right decision or not.
